POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the South Texas Health System Heart CEO, this position ensures the efficient operation of the Market’s Freestanding Emergency Departments. This includes establishing policies and procedures in coordination with the South Texas Health System, ensuring appropriate roll-out and application of those policies, staff training/education, hiring and retention of staff, capital and operating budget preparation and management, business analysis and development/implementation of strategies to achieve at or better than budgeted performance, market analysis to include outmigration and “leakage” followed by implementation of strategies to improve “keepage”, and adherence to UHS standards of operations for FEDs and other UHS entities as applicable. This position shall have a dotted line reporting relationship to the UHS FED Corporate Clinical Leader and shall timely advise that individual of relevant operational matters. This position ensures there is open, honest communication with the medical providers in the FEDs, the Medical Director of the FEDs, and community physicians whose patients present to the FED(s). This position also ensures a productive working relationship with all EMS providers to include, but not limited to, managing the performance of the FEDs such that all EMS providers prefer to come to a STHS FED. Ensures all services rendered are consistent with the mission, vision, and values of South Texas Heath System and in accordance with government regulations, licensing and accreditation requirements. This position participates in the Health System’s and FED’s strategic planning and contributes to the achievement of institutional goals and objectives. Promotes a culture of Service Excellence with all customer groups.
QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:
1. 3-5 or more years of progressive management experience in an acute care setting preferably, but not required, to include oversight of an Emergency Department or FED.
2. Must be detail oriented and able to focus on nuances of multi-site operations.
3. Demonstrated working knowledge of nursing clinical practices and management within an FED, hospital, or outpatient setting based on evidenced-based practice guidelines.
4. Extensive knowledge of principles and practices relevant to nursing and patient care activities.
5. Demonstrated knowledge of effective management and supervisory practices. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
6. Effective communication skills with diverse groups, including physicians, managers, and employees is required.
7. Knowledge of the financial implications of decisions including budgeting and forecasting for departments and/or projects is required.
8. Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.
9. Knowledge of regulatory requirements (TJC, CMS, TX) as applicable for successful survey outcomes.
EDUCATION / LICENSURE:
Master’s Degree in business administration, nursing or public administration.
2. Current license or permit to practice professional nursing in the state of Texas if the individual is a BSN/MSN.
