Job Description

Job Summary:

Forest Lake Academy is seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and Christ-centered part-time Science Teacher to join our academic team for the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate could be assigned the responsibility for teaching any combination of Biology, Physical Science, Environmental Science, or Chemistry while fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and a love for scientific discovery in students. This educator will provide engaging, rigorous, and hands-on instruction that helps students understand scientific concepts while connecting learning to real-world applications, environmental responsibility, and faith-based principles.

In addition to teaching, other sponsorship and supervision responsibilities will be assigned and the teacher must be a team player and willing to collaborate with colleagues in managing a holistic program for high schoolers.


Skills, Education, and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in science education, Biology, Environmental Science, Physical Science or related field required.
  • Valid teaching certification (or eligibility for certification) preferred.
  • Experience teaching secondary students (middle/high school) preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Biology, Physical Science, and Environmental Science content.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
  • Experience with project-based and inquiry-driven instruction.
  • Ability to conduct safe and engaging lab-based instruction.
  • Ability to integrate technology into science instruction.
  • Excellent classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Passion for student learning, mentorship, and academic excellence.
  • Experience with project-based learning and experiential instruction.
  • Ability to connect faith and scientific discovery within a Christian learning environment.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and scientific equipment.
  • Strong ability to inspire curiosity and enthusiasm for science.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Promote the Seventh-day Adventist philosophy, ensuring that all subject matter is taught from a Seventh-day Adventist perspective based on curriculum guidelines and requirements of the North American Division, Southern Union Conference, and Florida Conference
  • Establish and maintain a Christian atmosphere within the classroom and campus
  • Conduct a short devotional and have prayer at the beginning of each class Have competent knowledge of prescribed curriculums in the subject areas indicated Develop and submit weekly lesson plans to the principal as required
  • Lesson plans are to include Objectives, Procedures, and Evaluation for each learning style
  • Must also demonstrate evidence of lesson/unit planning and preparation that honors individual diversity and builds upon prior knowledge Develop long-term yearly/semesterly/quarterly plans and goals for each subject Select resources to support the subject matter that is academically and developmentally appropriate for diverse abilities and interests
  • Deliver engaging and effective instruction to students, employ a variety of teaching techniques and activities appropriate to student learning styles and subject matter, stimulate critical and creative thinking, and monitor student understanding
  • Effectively integrate technology into the classroom
  • Use a variety of evaluation techniques to provide feedback and communicate progress, providing opportunities for students to learn from mistakes as well as successes Utilize appropriate classroom management routines that facilitate student engagement and continuity
  • Provide for individual differences through diagnostic and prescriptive teaching
  • Communicate challenging expectations that encompass critical and creative thinking as well as problem-solving skills
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports and is conducive to student learning, allowing sufficient time for academic activities Utilize effective behavior management techniques which promote self-discipline
  • Systematically involve all students in the instructional process and encourage intellectual risk taking
  • Maintain accurate and organized student class records (attendance, grades, etc.) on the school's Student Information System (SIS) in compliance with administration
  • Provide motivating, timely and constructive feedback to students and parents every week on the SIS
  • Communicate with parents regularly, conducting parent/teacher conferences when necessary, keeping them well-informed Be willing to grow professionally
